7 of the top North American Esports Organizations: TSM, Cloud9, Team Liquid, CLG, Immortals, NRG, and Complexity band together to form the Professional Esports Association and will launch their $500k prize pool tournament over 10 weeks for Counter Strike Global Offensive in January. Jason Katz will serve as Commissioner for the league. Jason Katz says “We will have the highest level of transparency in the industry.” Andy Dinh says “It’s time for leagues to share the rewards and strategic decisions with the players. The best way for team organizations to do that is for us to do it ourselves.”
What is this new association looking to accomplish?
To be the change they seek. Instead of hitching their organizations’ success to a specific league they look to control their own league with changes like paying casters and players equally. Allowing players to represent themselves in a Rule Committee. Sharing 50% of the League’s PROFITS between players and owners, how it’s divided has not been explained. And the league will provide advisors for player retirement, investment, and health insurance needs. They are in negotiation with Twitch and FaceIt’s Esports Championship Series but will not collectively bargain with ELeauge as everyone is happy the way it is set up now.
When asked, why create this new League amongst a sea of 20 thousand leagues, Andy Dinh said off the record – It’s my own desire… Help me make the most Of freedom and of pleasure… Nothing ever lasts forever… Everybody wants to rule Esports.
